The courts in Athens are the ones who have the authority by law, to serve all the people who reside abroad and have Inheritance legal issues to solve in Greece and no other court anywhere in the whole Greek region.


It is very important to know that when a person (Greek or not) dies abroad, then, by law, his heirs must take all necessary actions, in Athens and in no other place in Greece, even if the deceased person was originally born in a village far away from Athens, even if his assets are located in any of the Greek villages, or in any of the Greek islands, even if the deceased person is not Greek.


a) The law strictly declares that the Athens courts have the authority to solve all inheritance matters for all the people who die abroad, despite the fact that they are of Greek origin, or not.


b) The law strictly declares that the inheritance of a deceased person who died abroad (Greek or not), must be accepted exclusively, in Athens. 


c) There is a specific tax office based in Athens, at Patission Street solely created, for that purpose. 


· We file the inheritance tax forms at this specific Athens tax office which is called “Tax office for residents abroad”.

· We pay our inheritance taxes solely to the Athens tax office.

· We hire a lawyer based in Athens, to offer us his/her services regarding the inheritance matters we have.

· We Probate the last Will and Testament of our relative (parent/grandparent/uncle/husband/wife), at the Athens courts only.

· There is a specific office in Athens in which we register our inheritance acceptance contract.  From the same office we receive our inheritance ownership certificate.
